SEO Trends in 2015 – Part 1

Another year is over and this internet thing doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. So we thought it would be helpful to provide some tips on the best SEO Trends tactics to remain visible online in 2015 over the next couple of weeks. 2-11-2015 9-48-43 PM

User Experience (UX) will come to the fore

This one has slipped under a lot of people’s radars, but Google search execs have been hinting for a while now that user experience will play an increasingly prominent role in determining organic search rankings. UX shouldn’t be confused with User Interfce, which is primarily concerned with how your site is laid out. User Experience (X) is mainly focussed on how your web presence feels to the end-user. The old Google words of wisdom holds true here more than anywhere: “Build for users, not search engines.” Not only should you consider the content of your site, but also how it’ll be consumed.

Luckily there are measures you can take to ensure that your site is scored well. With Fetch as Google-bot you can not only see how bots crawl your webpages, but also how browsers actually render them. This offers the ideal benchmark to diagnose any problems and optimize your site’s usability.

A mobile-first mind-set will no longer be optional

Considering the fact that the smartphone usage has almost tripled over the past two years, this one’s a no-brainer. More hints have been dropped by Google that mobile UX as a metric for search rankings is achieving increasing prominence. At the design stage of your website, a number of considerations need to be taken into account:

  • Scalable fonts
  • Touch-friendly interface (big buttons surrounded by plenty of white space are a must)
  • Responsive design allowing content to flow in the viewport

Though this is a lot to take on board, again Google Webmaster Tools come to the rescue. In the Search Traffic section you can run a mobile usability report, which will list any major breaches of best practice committed by your site. This feature flags up everything from the touch elements being too close together to content that the browser is unable to display.

Link-building (the bad kind) will continue its decline

The writing has been on the wall for artificial link-building for a while, Google keeps getting better at spotting black-hat tactics! You simply can’t get away with gaming the system anymore, but organic links from authoritative sites will always hold currency. Forging real and lasting relationships with clients and bloggers is crucial to ensuring your visibility. Bound up with this is the importance of social media which, despite some naysayers, will always be a critical source of inbound links.

Also, nothing beats sincere, honest testimonial from trusted sources.
